Deli item launched by protester allegedly shattered and caused yellow spot on border agent, legal proceedings reveal
A American border officer has stated under oath he could feel through his protective gear the force of a food product launched at him by a Washington DC protester, who has stood before a judge for criminal charge.
Federal border agent Gregory Lairmore informed the court panel the sandwich "exploded all over him" and he "could smell the vegetables and yellow sauce" on his uniform.
Both legal teams contests that Sean Dunn, thirty-seven, did in fact throw vulgar language and a deli-style sandwich at authorities assigned by the administration to patrol the federal district in August.
The event was captured on video and spread across the internet, making Mr Dunn a representation of opposition in Washington DC to the former president.
Government prosecutors initially tried to achieve felony charges against the accused, but a grand jury chose not to prosecute him.
Trump's assignment of military personnel to Washington DC this summer sparked outrage from some of the DC citizens, who viewed it as a partisan deployment of the military.
Based on court papers, the accused came near a group of officers at about 23:00 on the summer date, describing them "fascists" and exclaiming: "Why are you here? You are not welcome in my city!"
The court observed a reenactment from the agent on the court date as he gave evidence against the accused.
"I could feel it through my body armor," he said of the sandwich's impact, mentioning that an vegetable piece remained from his official equipment and sauce marked his uniform.
The accused's legal counsel, Julia Gatto, argued in her court presentation that hurling the deli product was a "innocent action that did not, could not, cause injury".
But government attorney the state's representative maintained Mr Dunn must be facing consequences.
"Regardless of identity, you can't just go around throwing stuff at individuals because you're upset," the attorney said.
After the claimed attack was revealed, the accused was fired from his job as a law firm employee in the federal legal agency.
