'It's like they never miss a pass': Swansea's Galbraith renews contest with Pep's side.

Ethan Galbraith can't help but smile as he remembers the thrilling dying seconds of Swansea's epic comeback triumph against Nottingham Forest in the EFL Cup. The game wrapped up with Galbraith temporarily wearing a fan's glasses after the post-goal scrum.

With the clock ticking into the 97th minute, Galbraith rattled the woodwork with a speculative strike from distance, and the defender quickly hammered in the deflection before charging toward the home end to mark the goal, with supporters mobbing the players.

Extraordinary Turnaround

This sealed an extraordinary recovery given the team had found themselves down 2-0 deep into the latter period. In the delirium, there was some minor mishaps. He shared, "There was a supporter sort of calling out and Josh Key and I were puzzled: 'What's he on about here?' Then we noticed the glasses. It was a bit of banter putting them on. We are on the pitch as footballers but we're individuals, too, so to have a bit of craic with the fans is always good."

Manchester City Challenge

The result earned a fourth-round fixture at home against the Premier League champions on Wednesday, opponents Galbraith ran close at the comparable phase of the FA Cup with Leyton Orient in February. Galbraith had an excellent perspective when the underdogs took the lead in remarkable manner, with a teammate's long-range effort from about 45 yards going in via the crossbar and the City goalkeeper. Many argued that it was recorded as an own goal.

"You would have expected they would've given it to him for having a go from that range," commented Galbraith, who played in the middle before switching to right wing-back after Orient changed tactics. That meant facing off against Jack Grealish, with whom he traded tops, and the player was among the City players who complimented the way Orient played positively.

City's Quality

"Physically they are outstanding but even the simple things and routine actions, they can just execute repeatedly," Galbraith says. "It feels like they complete every delivery and they understand how to dictate and neutralize a game. You can feel you're holding your own and then without warning they will just fizz a pass past your midfield without you even spotting it. You have to be alert every second of the game. It demands a strong mentality and focus just to remain competitive."

Welsh Transition

The Welsh side sought to acquire Galbraith in January and beat off competition to bring him in in the summer in a significant move. He made a name as a popular figure across multiple campaigns at his former club and has quickly replicated that in south Wales. At Orient he reunited with his former manager, who earlier gave Galbraith his first extended run in first-team action on loan at Doncaster from Manchester United. Then came a temporary move at fourth-tier Salford City, before he departed his boyhood club.

Learning Curve

"I was likely a bit naive going into professional soccer. I think a lot of players would say under-23s football is completely distinct. Sometimes it feels like the ball is moved without real physicality. There are limited hard challenges. Once you start playing first-team football you have to adjust fast."

National Team Success

His progress reflects that growth for his team and nation, performing well for Northern Ireland, who are fighting to qualify for the World Cup next summer via the qualifying rounds and for whom he has been selected in the past five games, including home and away encounters against the German national team. His former international manager, Galbraith's previous international manager, offered the supreme accolade, saying he was Northern Ireland's "little Iniesta or Xavi" given how he controls possession and his ability to spot a decisive through ball.

Early Days

This represents quite the ride for the player from the local area in the Belfast suburb, just outside the capital, who grew up watching his dad, his father, also a engine room operator, play for Ballyclare Comrades.

Manchester United Experience

Galbraith's sole appearance for the Red Devils came in Kazakhstan in 2019, a European competition trip to Astana, where they played on an synthetic surface and the arena covering was shut owing to the weather of -15C. "That proved to be a lengthy journey and it was chilly," he recalls, chuckling. "The preceding week, several youth players and I practiced as a group, so that aided our adjustment. Just to travel with the first team and make an appearance at the end was incredible."

Departing Old Trafford

How hard was it to leave United, the club he joined from Linfield aged his mid-teens? "It was relatively straightforward, because I reached the point where I realized I wouldn't break through at first-team level. I'm extremely thankful for the experience gained but it became apparent where I felt I needed to go my own route, drop down the leagues and play first-team games. Now I'm steadily progressing again."

Life in Swansea

It is the middle of the day at Swansea's Fairwood training base but Galbraith has somewhere to be at the early evening: a road rules assessment, another move in the direction of getting on the road. Before his recent move to his new neighborhood, the mid-twenties player was a regular in Swansea's so-called team minibus, a small coach driven by academy staff, the drivers, which ferries players to and from practice and games.

"I travel with a teammate, the Brazilian, the midfielder – Melker Widell used to be in it but has begun using his own car. It's nice to interact with the lads but I'm planning to be the subsequent individual out of the minibus and behind the wheel. Franco enjoys practical jokes; he's constantly causing mischief."

Fan Interactions

While playing for Orient, Galbraith would travel alongside followers on the Tube after commuting at Brentwood. "I tried|I attempted|My aim
