Marnus Labuschagne Dropped from Australian One-Day International Team to Face India
Marnus Labuschagne has been dropped from the three-game ODI series against India, with in-form Queensland colleague Matt Renshaw getting a shock call-up.
Recent Form Lead to Exclusion
The right-hander was left out from the one-day international team after being dismissed for one in each of his two innings during the top-end series against South Africa in August. The right-hander has a highest score of forty-seven in his previous ten ODI innings.
The batsman has played 68 one-day internationals and scored 1,871 runs at an batting average of 34.64, but will now focus on earning a Test team comeback in time for the Ashes beginning in Perth on 21 November.
Surprise Inclusion and Team Changes
Recent performances suggest of a improvement in form with 160 for Queensland in the Sheffield Shield this week, while Renshaw also hit a hundred for the Bulls in the same game against Tasmania.
Renshaw could to make his white-ball international debut in the forthcoming series against India after last being included in an ODI squad in 2022.
He has played 14 Test matches with the last coming in India in 2023 but is also seeking a return to the Test team as Australia seek a answer to their opening batting issues.
Bowling Returns and Fitness Updates
Left-arm quick Mitchell Starc returns for the ODI series against India after taking a break since starring for Australia in the clean sweep of West Indies in July.
BBL performer Mitch Owen could make his ODI debut after being concussed in the build-up to Australia’s most recent 50-over series against South Africa.
Skipper Pat Cummins continues to be absent as he hopes to heal from a back injury in time to lead Australia in the first Ashes Test in November.
Team Announcement Approach and Schedule
Australia have named a squad for only the initial two T20 matches against India with the upcoming Ashes series, although Glenn Maxwell will be absent for the five-game T20 series due to a wrist problem suffered in New Zealand.
Mitch Marsh will captain both the ODI and T20 sides after hitting a ton in the last match against New Zealand to secure a two-nil victory last week.
“Selectors have announced a squad for the ODI series and first two games of the T20 series as there will be rotation through the back end of the series as individuals prepare for the cricket season through domestic first-class matches,” selection chief George Bailey said.
“The majority of the T20 squad will remain together as it’s an important period in the build towards the T20 World Cup next year, however we are aiming to find equilibrium to ensure we simultaneously prepare specific players for the Test series ahead.”
